Commoning future foodways in Amsterdam and beyond
After five Food Commons seminars and a food tour, we have reached our closing event. How can we “common” future foodways in Amsterdam?
In this event we will first present a summary of the many insights collected in the seminar series. Following, we will engage in a panel discussion with Jeff Hou (director of Urban Commons Lab; University of Washington), Federico Savini (expert on degrowth and communing; UvA) and Loes Leatemia (program manager food policy; Gemeente Amsterdam). If we adopt an urban food commons lens, what opportunities does this bring to the City of Amsterdam’s food system, and what are the implications? And what could urban food commons offer for the city?
The program will be as follows:
15:00-15:15 – Summary of insights from organisers
15:15-15:45 – Jeff Hou (20 mins presentation and 10 mins question)
15:45- 16:30 – Panel discussion with Federico Savini and Loes Leatemia (10 mins reflection each, and 25 mins plenary discussion)
16:30 – 17:00 – Brain storm of key implications and messages (20 mins discussion and 10 mins output co-craetion)
17:00-18:00 – Borrel
Location: Pakhuis de Zwijger, workspace room

The Food Common Seminars is an initiative by Dr Ciska Ulug (VU), Ying-Tzu Lin and Dr Jannes Willems (UvA) to explore with researchers, professionals and communities the potential of urban food commons for the City of Amsterdam. The seminars are sponsored by the Centre for Urban Studies (UvA) and are organized in collaboration with ANFP/Food Council MRA and Cascoland.
